Creative Writing and Theatre at UBC Present the 24th Annual Brave New Play Rites Festival April 7-11, 2010 “Take the plunge with UBC’s emerging theatre artists!” The Creative Writing and Theatre programs at UBC present Brave New Play Rites, a festival of fresh new one-act plays. In its twenty-fourth year, Brave New Play Rites brings together the writing and production talents of students across disciplines to premiere twelve fifteen-minute shows in a professional environment. “You get twelve brilliant short pieces over two evenings, each with a year’s worth of design and creativity crammed into fifteen minutes,” says first-time director Zoe Green, fresh off her work with Nicola Cavendish in The Laramie Project. “The result is back-to-back entertainment.” For the truly adventurous, the Festival also offers a staged reading of additional scripts from some of UBC’s best. Ranging from quirky romances to serious dramatic fare, Brave New Play Rites features creative work from students of the stage who, in the words of award-winning playwright Wren Handman, could be “the new front line of Canadian artists.” Previous festivals have featured plays by such future Can Lit luminaries as Steven Galloway, Maureen Medved and Aaron Bushkowsky. You'll be able to say you saw them when! Book your tickets now for an evening in the Theatrical Deep End.
