DahliaFluteDuo

,

Mary Matthews and Melissa Wertheimer formed the Dahlia Flute Duo at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.

Recipients of a 2009-2010 Yamaha In-Residence Fellowship from the College Music Society, the duo strives to share their love of classical and contemporary flute music with a wide array of audiences. The Dahlia Flute Duo presented a lecture-recital funded by this grant at the 2010 Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair in Reston, VA. The duo was also selected as recipients of a 2009 Peabody Career Development Grant.

The Dahlia Flute Duo regularly performs at the Walters Art Museum, providing music for First Fridays and introductory music for the Adult Lecture Series. The duo has been featured twice on the Candlelight Concert Society's Community Outreach Series, as well as at the Baltimore Book Festival, the Sowebo Music and Arts Festival, and press events held by the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts. The Dahlia Flute Duo also actively performs at senior citizen residences, hospitals, local restaurants, private events, and other concert venues throughout the Baltimore region.

Avid performers of the double flute concerto genre, the Dahlia Flute Duo was awarded the Honorable Mention at the 2010 Mary Graham Lasley Scholarship Competition of the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra. In addition, they were finalists in the Coeur D'Alene Symphony Orchestra's 2010 Young Artist Competition.
